Outdoor benches are typically installed once and not moved for years. That's why one of the most important criteria when is their solidity and longevity. Benches made of too thin parts are likely to break up after some time of using. Steel benches that are not well treated will rust and untreated wooden benches will rot.
When it comes to the materials of rod holders they come in variety of shapes, styles and sizes and types of materials. Steel, copolymer, aluminum, and polypropylene are more commonly used materials when manufacturing rode holders. There are separate fishing rod holders available if you intend to do fishing in sea and they resist corrosion caused by salt water. Uses of aluminum rod holders are make fishing easier as it is the lightest among other materials. The rod holders made from aluminum and steel would be highly in price. However that doesn't mean it works better than non-metals.
The best way to examine the comfort of a bench is to sit on it and try it. You may want to consider adding pillows and/or cushions on the bench. Benches with backs are usually more comfortable than backless benches. Some benches also have armrests which can be considered another positive sign.
